There was a lovely little nature diary piece in today’s Irish Times about Irish lichens. Who ever knew that things so small and overlooked have so much variety and, indeed, can look so pretty when viewed up close. The photo above is of a lichen called Arthonia Vinosa. 
There is a very impressive website cataloguing Irish lichens with lots of lovely close up shots of the weird little things. It’s here.
